What constitutes the experience of wine in the mouth?

Common words to describe taste:

1. have structure or skeleton

This is a commendatory word, indicating that the tannins and acidity of this wine will not be too low, and it is very suitable for aging. As the tannins gradually oxidize, the taste will become softer and the aroma will be richer.

2. light/thin or bland

Lightness refers to a wine with a balanced body, low alcohol content, less tannin, and more obvious acidity, so the taste will appear light, and it is also a commendatory word. But lean or light means that the taste is unbalanced, like watered down wine.

3. Lively

It refers to the wine with high acidity, which tastes very refreshing and appetizing. It is often used to describe white wine or red wine such as Pinot Noir and Gamay.

4. full

Tannin, alcohol, and acidity are relatively high, and the taste is relatively strong, which can make people impressive.

5. harsh or severe

The wine is not very good, the acidity or tannin is too high, the fruit aroma is weak, the taste is not balanced enough, and it is difficult to bring pleasure.

6. complex

Hearing this word means that this wine must be a high-end wine, with multi-layered aroma and taste, with its own fruit aroma, and the aroma produced by fermentation and aging is full of changes and often brings surprises.

7. elegant or refined

It can be called an elegant wine, which means that the wine should not be too rich and powerful, and the aroma is mainly floral or fruity. Burgundy wines are often described as elegant, round and delicate.

8. compact

It describes the state of a wine, which has not yet been opened. Generally, it refers to young wines with relatively astringent tannins and insufficient aroma, which need to be aged or sobered up.

9. closed

After opening the bottle, there is almost no aroma, and the fruity aroma is not strong at the entrance. The tannins are tight, and the flavor will slowly appear after sobering up. It may be that the wine has not reached the drinking period or the flavor of the variety itself is restrained and closed.

10. Mineral

The most common manifestation is the taste of ore, which is like firecrackers and gunpowder when it is strong, and like flint and flint when it is light. Generally used to describe some white wines such as Riesling and Chardonnay.

Mastering some basic descriptions of wine taste is not only helpful to yourself, but also helps others to better understand wine, so as to choose the wine that suits you. If you want to evaluate a wine more accurately and professionally, you still need a lot of accumulation and learning.
